Teaching Through Turbulence: My Journey of Leadership and Impact

by Naing Htoo Aung on

In 2021, when the military coup shook Myanmar, my life changed overnight.

I was a university student with a clear path ahead of me. But suddenly, everything became uncertain. Campuses closed. The future felt paused. I left university—not because I wanted to, but because I had to. For months, I carried one heavy question in my mind:

What should I do now?

Before the crisis, I had experience teaching high-school students. I always enjoyed being in front of a classroom—explaining concepts, guiding discussions, and watching students slowly gain confidence. Teaching was not just a part-time job for me. It was something meaningful.

During that uncertain time, many students were also lost. They could not continue their formal education. Some were searching for alternative pathways, especially the GED program. They wanted international opportunities, but they didn’t know where to start. Quality GED classes were limited, and many were expensive.

That was when I saw both a problem and a possibility.

There was a clear market gap: students needed affordable, high-quality GED preparation. I realized that my teaching experience, combined with this growing demand, could become something bigger. I didn’t just see a business opportunity—I saw a responsibility.

I decided to start on my own.

With no big investment and no physical campus, I launched Your Educators as an online education center. I began as a self-employed teacher—designing lesson plans, preparing materials, mentoring students, managing operations, and teaching every session myself. At the same time, I had to step into leadership. I was not only a teacher; I was a founder, decision-maker, and problem solver. Every challenge—from student retention to course structure—required resilience and strategic thinking.

As the center grew, leadership became even more important. I recruited and trained other teachers who shared the same mission. I developed systems, set academic standards, and built a culture focused on quality, discipline, and student success. Instead of working alone, I began leading a small but committed team working toward a shared vision.

Marketing was another turning point.

Understanding that students spend much of their time online, we built a strong digital presence. We launched a successful TikTok channel, sharing short educational videos that simplified difficult GED concepts. These videos not only helped students learn quickly but also built credibility and trust. At the same time, we developed a strong and professional brand image on Facebook, consistently sharing educational content, student achievements, and motivational stories.

Through strategic content marketing and consistent branding, Your Educators became recognizable in the GED community. Our growth was not driven by paid advertisements alone, but by value-driven content, word of mouth, and authentic student results.

Over time, Your Educators achieved milestones that once felt impossible. We have supported over 700 students in completing their GED journey. Among them, we provided scholarships to more than 40 students who needed financial assistance but had strong determination to continue their education. Those scholarships are not just statistics—they represent dreams protected during uncertainty.

Today, Your Educators remains a small business—but it is built on leadership, innovation, and impact. What started as uncertainty during a national crisis has grown into a trusted online education center with a clear mission and growing influence.

The military coup forced me to leave university.
But it also pushed me to lead.

Your Educators was not created from comfort.
It was created from crisis, courage, leadership, and vision.

And this is only the beginning.
In the future, we will not just be one of many—we will be the one students trust for opportunity, quality, and transformation.
